Special Event Volunteer

Overview

PAWS Chicago holds many fundraising events throughout the year where volunteers are needed. These special events are vital to our lifesaving efforts because we do not receive government funding.

In addition to raising funds, these events help spread the word about the No Kill movement and help find more loving homes for our animals.

As a Special Event Volunteer, you may help with:

  • Greeting guests
  • Registration
  • Raffle ticket sales
  • Concierge services
  • Setup and breakdown
  • Transportation

Additional roles may be available, depending on the event.

Helpful Skills

  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Great customer service skills
  • Prior experience working special events

Training

  • New Volunteer Orientation
  • If handling animals, Dog Town Level 1 Training or Kitty City Level 1 Training is required.

Adoption Event Manager

Overview

PAWS Chicago holds many offsite adoption events throughout the year. These events help showcase the wonderful pets in need of homes, spread the word about PAWS Chicago and the No Kill movement and help unite our pets with loving homes.

Adoption Event Managers manage adoption events from start to finish. Duties include:

  • Setting up the event
  • Transporting animals
  • Coordinating adoptions
  • Answering potential adopter and volunteer questions

  • Leadership skills

Training

  • New Volunteer Orientation
  • Dog Town Level 2 Training, Gold Star Training or Kitty City Level 2 Training

Adoption Event Support Volunteer

Overview

  • As an Adoption Event Support Volunteer, you will:
  • Handle the animals during the event
  • Assist potential adopters in meeting any animals that they are interested in adopting
  • Review the animals’ basic information with potential adopters
  • Go over the requirements for adopting

Community Outreach Event Volunteer

Overview

Our Community Outreach events introduce us to hundreds of people in one day and require lots of help. These large events take place a couple times a year, and we need a lot of volunteer support. This one-day commitment opportunity is fast-paced, fun and uplifting.

Duties include:

  • Greeting and collecting attendee information
  • Helping with registration
  • Talking with attendees about the benefits of spay/neuter
  • Managing lines
  • Helping the veterinarians

Helpful Skills

  • Effective communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of pet wellness

Training

  • New Volunteer Orientation
  • Event-specific orientation (held 2 weeks before the event)
